The magician displays a slender piece of board that has a hole punched in its center. He slides the board into a slender envelope that has a similar hole puched in its center. Next the magician threads a paper brad through both sides of the envelope and board. The pieces are definitely fastened together in the middle. Suddenly the magician grabs the board and pulls it free from the envelope! The board mysteriously penetrates right through the brad! Easy to do.
