The magician displays a block of wood. A hole runs through the middle of the block. Also slots are visible on the top and bottom ends of the block. The magician explains that the slots are actually the top and bottom openings of slot tunnel that runs all the way through the block. The magician proves such by dropping a quarter through the tunnel, and the quarter slides right through. Additionally, the magician may ask someone if they want the quarter dropped-in heads-up or heads-down before the quarter is dropped through. 
 
The magician then inserts a pencil or pen through the middle hole to keep the quarter from falling through. However the magician then does the impossible by dropping the quarter through the top slot. The quarter falls right through the block and apparently penetrates through the pencil!  The pencil and slide can immediately be handed out for examination. 
 
This beautiful effect is hand-crafted by the incomparable Jay Leslie of House of Enchantment. The block is made of three hardwoods, the center section of which is rare black Ebony. This effect is easy to do and sets-up in less than three seconds. It is a great little effect for close-up performances.
