The magician displays a paperback book and a pad of paper. Three different spectators are asked to each name a single digit number. The magician writes the three numbers in a column on the pad and adds them to get a total. The volunteer is then asked to assist onstage, open the book to the matching page number of the three digit number total, and then look at the third word on the third line. With the volunteer concentrating on the word, the magician contemplates for a moment and then writes a word on the pad of paper. The volunteer is then asked to name out loud the word chosen from the book. The magician then turns his pad of paper around and written on the paper is the selected word!
