The magician displays what appears to be a vintage book. The book is opened, and flames shoot out of the top of the book! The magician then closes the book to extinguish the flames. 

We stock what we believe to be the finest Hot Book that has ever been introduced to the magic fraternity since it’s inventor,  the late Bev Bergeron, first introduced the effect back in the 1970’s. Unfortunately since then, many garbage Hot Books have been put onto the market. Butane lighters, battery operated glow plugs, and the like may have their place in society, but they do not work well for magic! 

So what’s the solution? Why the Bic cigarette lighter that you can buy at any convenience store of course! It makes absolutely no sense to re-invent the lighter when reliable, inexpensive, and time-tested technology is already available. The maker of this Hot Book has taken a hollow book and installed a burn pad that you saturate with regular cigarette lighter fluid. Also in the book is a metal sheath that is designed to hold a regular Bic cigarette lighter. Strike and light the cigarette lighter, and the Hot Book lights as well!

Is it dependable? When was the last time you struck a Bic lighter and it didn’t light? What happens when the lighter runs out of fuel?  Simply pull the lighter out of the book, toss it away, and slide a new lighter into the sheath. It’s that simple. This book is well-made, lined with aluminum sheet to help prevent book combustion, and very decorative in appearance. However, please remember that this magic effect uses real fire. Fire is dangerous and this effect should be performed only by adults. If you buy this effect, you acknowledge that you are not a minor. Also like most fire products in magic, the book should be opened and burned only 3 – 4 seconds and then extinguished. Buyer beware. Use caution and use at your own risk. 

Also understand that we cannot ship cigarette lighters through the US Mail. So you will have to go to the convenience store or drug store and buy a couple of regular Bic J-6 cigarette lighters.  They are inexpensive and so buy a couple. They will last a long, long time.
