The magician displays a deck of cards and then cuts them into two piles. The cards are fanned and shuffled face to face so half the cards are face up and the other half face down. The spectator then takes any card that is face up and places it anywhere in the deck face down. The cards are shuffled again and when the deck is spread out on the table, all cards are back face down with the exception of the face up selected card!
